YouWiN! is an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria to create jobs by encouraging entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths. This initiative has been jointly implemented by the Federal Ministries of Finance, Youth Development, Communication Technology as well as Women Affairs and Social Development with support from the World Bank, UK Department for International Development and the organized Private Sector.
YouWiN Business Plan Competition was formally launched in October 2011; and 6000 persons were selected from the best applicants in the first stage of the YouWiN 1 competition out of a total of 23, 821 applicants. Eventually, 1200 awardees were selected from the 6000 tobe given between N1 million to N10 million (for 2012)
This year’s edition is YouWiN 4, being the 4th edition of this programme. Over the years, the number of applicants for the YouWiN programme has been increasing astronomically. As a result, the competition hasbecome really stiffer. In spite of the increment of the number of YouWiN awardees from 1200 (in the first year of the competition) to 1500 later, the competition has become morecompetitive.Yet, there are winners, , year after year.
